We will have a free viewing tour of “Yanagibashi no Kabuki” from Koriyama , Fukushima Prefecture.
“YANAGIHASHI KABUKI” Performance of local Folk entertainment from Koriyama.
“Meeting to think about the Folk entertainment and Rural life ” has two main purposes. One is that we appreciate the traditional entertainments that have been transmitted to the “rural areas”, which are the hometowns of the Japanese heart.
The other is that we think about the current situation of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery together with urban residents by knowing the lifestyles of the rural areas concerning their traditional entertainments.
This time, we will welcome those of the preservation society of “YANAGIHASHI KABUKI”, which has been transmitted to Koriyama-city, Fukushima Prefecture, and would like to show its
performance to urban residents.
“YANAGIHASHI KABUKI” has been passed down since the Bunka and Bunsei time (1804-1830) of the Edo period (1603-1867) to the Nakada-cho, Yanagihashi in Koriyama-city, Fukushima Prefecture. According to legend, travelling entertainers had been living in this area for a long time, and then they conveyed Kabuki (*) there.
(*) Kabuki is a traditional stage drama performed exclusively by men to the accompaniment of songs and music.
